With 13 years of experience, we run one of the worlds largest debating programmes and we equip people of all ages and backgrounds with the ability to communicate & collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds, to think critically and creatively, whilst also developing empathy, resilience and core confidence. We have worked with over 1,500 businesses and brands and work with 6,000 young people each week.
Debate Mate is a social business and as part of our missions, we work with our charitable programme, Debate Mate schools to deliver its programme to run after-school debate clubs in areas of high child poverty across the world. Over the last nine years, we have successfully taught over 25,000 young people to debate in the UK, USA, Jamaica, Nepal, Dubai, Doha, Mexico, Rwanda, Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, China, Japan, Korea and Israel.
Scarlett is the CEO of Debate Mate Online and left a career in Corporate Law to set up our Jamaica programme before founding Debate Mate Online.
Margaret has over twenty years’ experience as a commercial barrister combined with two decades in the voluntary sector including Centre Point and the NSPCC Justice for Children programme.
Seun has been working for Debate Mate for over 10 years and is a former competitive debater. She leads on our International Education Strategy and oversees the product development for Debate Mate Online.
Enayah has over 10 years of experience in the classroom as a former Deputy Head of English. She Oversees the Operations for Debate Mate Online and the Management of our Charitable programme Debate Mate Schools.
Sarah has mentored for 4 years in schools across the country and now supports the development, creation and running of our online programmes as the Head of Programmes
James has worked with Debate Mate for over 5 years and supports with the digital marketing strategy across the Debate Mate Group.
Gina worked as a Debate Mate mentor for 3 years in Birmingham and London, before joining the office as a Program Director for Debate Mate Online
Kim joined Debate Mate at the start of the 2021/2022 school year as the Operations Manager for Debate Mate Virtual, having made the move from South Africa to the UK. She previously worked in the Sports Events sector, most recently project managing the FINA World Swimming Championships in Abu Dhabi where she lived for 2 years.
Zara has been involved with Debate Mate since 2018 initially as a mentor working across the group. In 2021 she joined the team as a Programme Director. She currently manages the new DMO x HSBC Future Skills Oman programme. She loves getting to meet students and mentors from all around the world, and the best thing about her role is having the chance to help shape the new programmes to be launched in the Middle-East!
Haniya has mentored for 2 years at Debate Mate. Her current role as PD involves supporting Debate Mate's partnership with HSBC Oman which is running an online Future Skills programme.
Hester has mentored at Debate Mate since November 2020, mentoring on our virtual term-time clubs, summer camp courses and Deloitte collaboration. Having just graduated from the University of Bristol, Hester has joined the office full-time as a Programme Director at Debate Mate Online.
Matt mentored for Debate Mate Schools in 2019 before joining Debate Mate Online in 2022. He has completed an undergraduate degree in Politics, and has varied experience in charity & politics, working for the Green Party and for a Homeless hostel.
